Document Commenting

The Document Commenting feature allows senders and recipients to collaborate directly within a document. Instead of relying on external email threads, all feedback, clarifications, and discussions happen in context—right where the content lives.

This improves turnaround time, reduces confusion, and keeps all communication tied to the document itself.

Key Capabilities

Inline comments on documents
Senders can highlight any part of a PDF, select a specific recipient, and leave a comment.
Recipients (signers) can also highlight areas and add comments or replies. Their comments are automatically directed to the sender.

Private 1:1 comment threads
Each comment thread is private between the sender and a single recipient.

  • Signer A cannot view Signer B’s comments
  • Ensures confidentiality in multi-signer workflows

Replies and resolution

  • Both parties can reply within a thread
  • Threads can be marked as resolved once the discussion is complete
  • Helps keep documents clean and actionable

Email notifications
Users are notified for:

  • New comments
  • Replies
  • Edits
  • Resolved threads

For ordered multi-signer workflows, notifications are paused and delivered as a digest when it’s the signer’s turn.

Guest signer support
Recipients do not need a Signeasy account to participate in commenting. They can view and respond to comments seamlessly.

Admin and member visibility

  • Space admins and members can view all comment threads in read-only mode
  • They cannot reply or resolve threads

CC recipient restrictions

  • CC’d recipients do not have access to comment threads

How to Enable Document Commenting

  1. Organization-level enablement
    • This feature must be enabled manually by the Signeasy team via a backend update.
    • Contact support or your account manager to request access.
  2. Transaction-level activation
    • Once enabled for your organization:
      • Go to Advanced Options while preparing a document for signature
      • Turn on Document Commenting for that specific transaction

Where to Find Comments

  • Comments appear directly on the document interface
  • A summary of comment activity is also available in the Quick View panel within the ICM transaction listing page

Notes

  • This feature is currently available only on ICM
  • Comment visibility is intentionally restricted to maintain privacy and relevance
