Auto-detect form fields
Updated 9 days ago

Auto-detect form fields is now live, making it significantly faster to prepare PDFs for e-signatures.

When a sender uploads a PDF, they can enable auto-detect form fields, which scans the document and automatically places commonly used fields such as:

  • Signature fields

  • Date fields

  • Checkboxes

  • Lines, dashes, and boxes

This works for both:

  • PDFs with existing embedded form fields

  • Flat PDFs with visual cues

The feature reduces manual effort by handling the bulk of field placement automatically.

Why This Matters

Manually adding fields to long documents can be time-consuming and error-prone—especially for multi-page agreements.

Auto-detect form fields helps you:

  • Instantly reach ~80% completion

  • Avoid repetitive drag-and-drop actions

  • Focus on reviewing and fine-tuning instead of starting from scratch

Availability

  • Available to all e-sign users

  • Supported on both:

    • Old interface

    • ICM interface

  • Internal users with an @signeasy.com domain have access on the ICM plan

  • Accessible within the document viewer (docviewer)

How It Works

  1. Upload your PDF document

  2. Enable auto-detect form fields

  3. The system scans for recognizable patterns

  4. Fields are automatically placed across the document

  5. Review and adjust as needed before sending

Accuracy & Limitations

PDFs are complex file formats, and detection is based on pattern recognition. While the feature is effective, it is not guaranteed to be perfect.

Think of it as a smart assistant that completes most of the work, leaving you to handle final adjustments.
