Smarter Contract Import in Repository [ICM]

We’ve introduced a faster, more flexible way to import contracts into the Repository. The new flow gives you greater control, visibility, and automation—so you can get contracts into the system quickly while still capturing the right structure and insights.
Updated 18 days ago

The contract import experience has been redesigned to:

  • Let you review files before importing

  • Enable contract type assignment during import (not after)

  • Offer AI-powered tagging for faster processing

  • Provide flexibility to skip steps when speed matters

Previously, importing contracts into the Repository was time-consuming and rigid. Users had to:

  • Upload files or folders without visibility into what was being imported

  • Manually tag contracts after import

  • Spend extra time organizing contracts before extracting value

This created unnecessary friction—especially when handling large volumes of documents.

The new import flow solves this by giving you:

  • Control — Choose how contracts are categorized

  • Speed — Skip steps when needed

  • Clarity — See exactly what you’re importing and how it will be processed

How It Works

The updated import process is split into two simple steps:

Step 1: Review

Before importing, you can review all files:

  • Each file appears as an individual row with:

    • File name

    • File count

    • Option to remove

  • Folder uploads appear as a single row (flattened view)

    • No nested expansion or per-file metadata

Important Notes:

  • Only PDF files are supported

  • Non-PDF files are automatically skipped

  • Password-protected PDFs:

    • Will be assigned a contract type

    • Will not undergo key term extraction

Step 2: Assign a Contract Type

Choose how contract types are assigned during import:

1. Let AI Assign (Recommended)

  • Automatically classifies each contract

  • Works even for mixed contract types in a single upload

  • Uses intelligent tagging for accuracy and speed

  • Hidden if AI is disabled at the organization level

2. Select Manually

  • Choose a contract type from a dropdown

  • View a preview of key terms that will be extracted

  • Gives full visibility into how contracts will be structured

3. Assign Later

  • Skip contract type assignment during import

  • Add contract types later from the Repository

  • Mirrors the previous workflow

What’s Next

We’re actively working on:

  • Custom Contract Types

  • Custom Key Terms

Once available, you’ll be able to:

  • Create and assign your own contract types during import

  • Define custom key terms for extraction

This will further enhance flexibility and customization in the import process.
